    About the seminar

Cyber security involves protecting the information and systems we rely on every day whether at home, work or school. The increasing volume and sophistication of cyber security threats–including targeting phishing scams, data theft, and other online vulnerabilities demand that we remain vigilant about securing our systems and information. The average unprotected computer (i.e. does not have proper security controls in place) connected to the Internet can be compromised in moments. Thousands of infected web pages are being discovered every day. Hundreds of millions of records have been involved in data breaches and new attack methods are being launched continuously. These are just a few examples of the threats facing us, and they highlight the importance of information security as a necessary approach to protecting data and systems.

To spread awareness and to increase security from cyber crimes IEEE-SHR student chapter organized a workshop on “Cyber Security” by world renowned ethical hacker Ankit Fadia.

    About Ankit Fadia

At the age of 15 his book on ethical hacking made him the youngest author to be published by Macmillan India and till now he has published 15 bestselling books on ethical hacking. Description of the seminar

The seminar started at 10’O clock in the morning with the felicitation of Mr. Ankit Fadia and Associate Dean, Dr. M.V. Deshpande by Prof. Shashikant Patil (H.O.D., Extc Dept.). Then Mr. Ankit Fadia was formally introduced to the audience by Ms. Parkhi Tyagi. After which he took over the dais. He started by asking some questions which shook the audience by surprise. He did proceed to the presentation by showing some of the real life case studies of cyber crime and hence explaining the necessity of cyber security through them.

Subsequently he analyzed the basic mind set of a criminal to better understand cyber crimes. He gave live demonstrations to show how cyber criminal actually works.

He demonstrated how to track IP address of any other person sitting in any other part of the world through websites like Spypig.com, Getnotify.com, Blasze.com .The criminal sends a photo or a video link through these sites which in turn broadcasts the IP address of the victim in the criminal’s computer.

His second illustration was about the use of TROJANS malwares through which a cyber criminal could infiltrate into other computer. These Trojans include NETBUS, BACKORRIFICE, GIRLFRIEND,WINBACKDOOR and fully undetectable TROJANS like NUCLEAR RAT and POISON IVY can control any system.

The seminar became more appealing with the demonstration of E-mail Spoofing which is a technique used to deliver fake email to any person in the world through anyone’s account. Mr. Ankit Fadia presented Email Spoofing through a website named anonymizer.in/fake-mailer/ through which he consigned a spoof e-mail by Bill Gates to his friend as a job invitation.

The audience was stunned when he expounded mouth-opening cyber crime technique like Stegnography which was used in 9/11 attacks. He conveyed this through a software named S-tools which is used to encrypt the message in a picture.
Later techniques such as cracking password from other PC by using OPHCRACK and PCLOGIN NOW software’s can help a criminal to hack a windows login password from any other system were also displayed.

The audience was mesmerized when he demonstrated few fun tricks from his recent bestselling book “FASTER” like fake calling app and PANIC button app which was applauded and appreciated by the audience.
He concluded the event by question and answer round in which many questions were fired by the excited audience to each of which he provided satisfactory solutions. Afterwards he guided the students about the increasing job opportunities in the field of Cyber Security.

Later he familiarized the audience with his new video channel-“GEEK ON THE LOOSE” and his latest addition of bestselling book “FASTER” for more witty apps and softwares.
In the end Prof. Shashikant Patil congratulated Mr. Ankit Fadia with a trophy and a letter of appreciation for his lucrative efforts in spreading awareness among the audience and conducting an outstanding and interactive seminar.
The organizing committee was acknowledged for being supportive and for organizing a successful seminar after which certificates of participation were distributed to the students and the seminar was dismissed by 12:30PM.
