To mark the U.S. holiday in a uniquely Canadian way, the High Level Bridge in Edmonton went red, white and blue just after midnight on July 4. A gift in light to our friends south of the border as you celebrate Independence Day. The 100-year-old bridge was recently retrofitted with some 60,000 LED lights in a community (no government money) fundraiser that attracted donations small and large on the way to the $2.5-million goal. Sometimes it gets dark early here, and we wanted to show the world the kind of spirit that makes it worth calling out patch of Canada home.
