    Things You Must Know Before Visiting Horsham

     

    Horsham is one of the finest towns in West Sussex. In fact, it is also considered as one of the finest places to live in the United Kingdom. This is an excellent place to visit if you want to visit the southeastern part of England. It actually has a mainline rail link to Central London.


    Horsham is a mixture of old and new, with historic streets being wrapped around the huge Swam Walk shopping centre in the heart of the town. Shopping is great in this town as it hosts both small and large shopping stores.


    The Causeway, a few yards away from the shops, is considered one of the finest streets in Sussex. It hosts a lovely mixture of buildings, the great Horsham Parish Church, mature trees, and of course, the peaceful Memorial Garden.


    Apart from that, you can also visit one of the best buildings – the Horsham Museum which is excellent and free. You can also know more about their tradition with their weekly markets at the Bishopic on Thursdays and at Market Square and Carfax on Saturdays. Furthermore, you can visit the Horsham Park, which is a very lovely park of about 60 acres right in the middle of Horsham – this is actually situated in the grounds of the grand old Park House.


    History Of Horsham


    Horsham indeed played a very important part in the history of West Sussex for centuries. It is regarded as one of the most important market town and centre of justice as well as a great part of the Sussex Iron Industry. In fact, Horsham prospered primarily as a market town.


    From the middle ages, this town seems to have become more important. And the clay of Weald has played a major part in Horsham’s economy. Its stones were used for roofing and its heavy slab roofing is considered one of the great features of the many buildings situated in West Sussex. St Mary’s Church was the most distinguished historical buildings in this town. It was inaugurated in the 12th century by the Bramber family.


    After a couple of decades, Horham gives a great sense of being and has indeed done very well in Britain in Bloom competitions. These days, Horsham is a very prosperous place – no wonder plenty of individuals want to visit this town. In fact, in 2006, it was named the 2nd best place to live in the UK.
