A CONCERTED EFFORT TO END SCHOOL VIOLENCE
IDEAs Against Violence is a non-profit organization with a mission to collaborate with schools and develop violence prevention and response strategies to ensure that America’s children and educators are safe from violence at school. IDEAs Against Violence bases its methods on standard recommendations from organizations including the Secret Service and FBI. They believe in a comprehensive, preventive approach to violence in schools, rather than a reactionary one.
IDEAs Against Violence provides a variety of programming and services to schools. They both offer teachers and administrators the seminars and training necessary to make them aware, active, and effective parts of stopping school violence, and also collaborate with schools to establish intelligent and effective violence response plans and drills.
IDEAs Against Violence also focuses on accessibility to schools. It provides all of its programming and services to schools free of charge. It’s approach is civilian, aligned with school culture and environment, as opposed to military. It focuses on integrating community building and common sense measures which can easily become a part of and enhance positive learning environments rather than focusing on finding and defeating suspects, which can be a disruptive approach.
With the proper education, action, and community empowerment on the subjects of school safety, violence prevention, and holistic response to acts of violence, it is possible to create a future where children will be safe every day at school and teachers will feel secure in the workplace.
This is the first year of operation of IDEAs Against Violence. It is funded through the generous support of philanthropists. To support IDEAs Against Violence and their mission to end school violence, donations may be made to their “Back to School Safely” campaign here: www.gofundme.com/awk59g.
