    Panamanian Tamarin

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Sandi Horton-Lafferty was travelling down the Chagres River in the Soberania National Park, when she snapped this photo of a Red-Crested Panamanian Tamarin. The park is located in Colon, Panama, and known for its lush landscape and exotic wildlife.

Horton-Lafferty said, "During our boat safari the Tamarins were eager to explore what our boat may have to offer. They climbed right onto the bow of the boat and snatched a piece of mango. The older Tamarins, after retrieving the treat, would return to the lush vegetation of their island home and give the fruit to their babies hidden safely in the flora."

During a river ride in the Chagres River, Panama, my husband and I encountered a family of red-crested or "Panaminian" tamarins. Seemingly used to people, they were friendly and even took a mango piece right from the boat.
