    Anchovies in La Jolla, CA

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     svmatuza is a software consultant and surfer in San Diego and spends nearly every day in the ocean. As soon as he heard about the anchovy influx, a phenomenon where schools of hundreds to millions of anchovies descend to the shallow waters of La Jolla Shores, he and some friends went to find and film them.

"We spent at least 30 minutes swimming through the anchovies, which was absolutely surreal. I have diving experience at some amazing locations around the world — Great Barrier Reef, Sipadan, Malaysia, Similan Islands, Thailand — but I would say it was one of the best underwater experiences I've ever had,” he said.

"When the waves would crash and scare the anchovies, they would all slam into your body. It felt like a thousand tiny hands tickling you... it was really awesome." And then a shark almost ran into him. You can watch it happen at 2:20 in the video.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

Swam through the massive shoal of anchovies that arrived at La Jolla Shores on Tuesday, July 8th 2014. The anchovies were so thick it literally blacked out the sun underwater. Also got some great clips of leopard sharks hunting through the swarm.
