Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Elephant Camp Baby Elephant Predicts World Cup Winner

Chiang Rai, Thailand, July 12, 2014—World Cup fever has reached the jungles of Thailand—and even elephants are placing bets on who will be the winner of this Sunday’s finals! Denla, a baby elephant at the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort in Chiang Rai, was given the option of pushing a ball designated “Argentina” or another ball designated “Germany” past a goal line. After two trial runs in which he picked Argentina, the final, definitive kick predicted…. Argentina again!

Denla (which means “special one” in Thai) and his watchful mother, Boon Jan (which means “auspicious moon” in Thai- quite fitting with Saturday’s super moon!) are beneficiaries of the Golden Triangle Elephant Foundation (GTAEF), which was set up in 2006 to improve the plight of elephants and has since been diversified to include welfare projects that incorporate broader philanthropic and cultural objectives with unprecedented success. John Roberts, Anantara Resorts’ Director of Elephants, oversees the programme. The Elephant Camp at Anantara Golden Triangle was established in 2003.
