DISRESPECT TO SENIOR CITIZENS
IS THIS THE RIGHT RESPECT TO A SENIOR CITIZEN?
By ASIT SAHA.
That particular evening is never forgettable. Can any one transfer mind from horrible sight to joyous status so easily ? No, never so early the victim can smile. To change mood so promptly is really impossible when his mouth is still bleeding profusely?
The poignant moment of 8th JULY,2014 has hurt the conscience of Mr. Pradeep Bose. He is a daily passenger of Sealdah-Bongaon Local. Al most all the trains of this line run at passengers’ life risk. As a result of collapse of village and small town economy, millions of job hunters rush to the capital of West Bengal state. Though their earnings from capital city of Kolkata are very meager, crisis in employment sector is the reason to lead almost all the capable persons to go to Kolkata. Varieties of works call the poor and the needy people of the suburban area. Like willow the wisp ,working places of Kolkata tempt the young and middle-aged people but in the long run most of them are bound to bid adieu to their ever busy Megacity .
Mr. Pradeep Bose is not an employee of a private house. He is not a factory or foundry worker. He has been serving in a Central Government Office. Though the man joined as a clerk , now he is the senior most clerk of his office. Like many other daily passengers of Bongaon Loacal, this gentleman avail train from Bongaon and reaches Kolkata after 2-30 hrs of constant journey. The distance between Bongaon –to Kolkata is only 76 k.m. but for the lack of modern facility most of the commuters are compelled to run in overcrowded train. Specially In return journey for pressure of thousands of passengers at the pick hour of evening , the weak and the old aged do not get chance of even entering the compartment from Sealdah or from Bidhannagar stations.
Being a middle aged man of 57 years, in his return journey, Mr. Bose comes to Barasat from Kolkata by fast running bus and from there avail Bongaon Local to avoid heavy rush. Buses also run being over loaded with passengers than the normal capacity. Violation of carrying capacity is nominal matter . the norm of buses and trains of this state. Sometimes many a passengers travel on the open bus hood. Police and other law maintainers over look such violations of rules. The function of the police is limited only in protecting the corrupt ministers . The present customs is known to all and the social status is depending on the on going process. The system of taking bribes from the offenders and harass the honest people is the open secret matter of the day. Like other week day, Mr. Bose came to Barasat Rly. Platform to board into the Bongaon Local coming with packed up commuters from SEaldah. Sealdah is very busy station of Kolkata. . In this particular train, a great number of passengers get down at Barasat . All the busy commuter run for availing a connecting train schedule to starts from the platform no. 2. This very connecting train goes to Hasnabad.
That evening is a bloody moment for Mr. Bose. Like the other weekdays he was waiting among the crowd for the train of 17-56 hrs. The cloudy sky was emitting thunder light. After the sultry weather a possibility of rain fall came. At the whistle of the train the entire platform experienced a sudden movement among the passengers. Accordingly with the stopping of this electric train a great number of passengers began to get down. Their hasty and nasty movement created a chaos. Nudging and jabbing for finding way of out made them various furious . No sense of humanity remained in the mind of the who were eagerly trying to go to platform no two where the Hasnabad Local was waiting for departure.
As per regular custom Mr. Bose waited at Barasat Platform no. 4. When the Hasnabad bound passengers had almost vacated the train compartment, he entered the area of compartment door. But immediately his movement towards the seat row, a pudgy youth scuffled with him. He blew several time to push other passengers. Mr. Bose tried his best to protect himself from the attack of the youth but was compelled to detrain. The notorious passenger reviled him and inflicted on his face. Many a co passengers noticed this violent incident in the railway platform. It is very odd that no person came forward to rescue a man of 57 years old. Though another 3 years are left to retire from service, the air of Mr. Bose resembles an octogenarian. He is really a senior citizen of India.
After the attack by that cruel youth who has no mind to follow the rules of the road, the injured gentleman didn’t utter a word for the help . He knew very well that most of the Indian citizens have been changed to be self-centered. of Indian society this gentleman .Tears rolled round this old man but no cry nor any protesting word he uttered. Mr. Bose could realized once more that modern Indian people has lost the inherent sense humanity . Within some seconds his white shirt drenched in blood. The wretched gentleman press his mouth with the palm of his right hand but bleeding did not stop. In no moment some broken teeth came out of his mouth. The man being frustrated of the youth citizens didn’t blame any one. On account of ceaseless bleeding his body collapsed and couldn’t but lay on the railway platform. The commuters passed by him but didn’t care for the beaten senior citizen of India. The unconscious body of Mr. Bose was bleeding profusely.
