Travel photo of the day
Mengjia Longshan Temple
My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this location by accident on our first night of exploring Taipei, Taiwan.
The shot was taken from inside Longshan Temple where the air was thickly filled with smoke from the burning of incense. The fact that moments before I was walking through a modern city was quickly forgotten after I walked through the dark doors of the temple. It felt as if I traveled back hundreds of years to a time long forgotten.
The incense if believed to purify thoughts and some Taiwanese believe it to be "food for the dead."
After some research online, I found that Longshan Temple was badly damaged by American bombers during the Raid of Taipei during World War 2. Americans claimed the Japanese were hiding weapons inside but a few months after the war the temple was repaired to its former glory.
