    River Tunga


    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     The Tunga River, which stretches 91 miles in southern India, is 'always calm, deep and never roars or rushes,' according to SujayG. He shot this serene photo at the Sakrebailu Elephant Camp in Karnataka, India.

    Tunga is considered as one of the sacred river in South India. River Tunga accommodates rare migratory birds and wild animals. Famous Sharadha temple at Sringeri, Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary, Sakrebaylu Elephant Camp are some interesting places situated on the banks of this river. It is calm, yet dangerous especially during monsoon.


    Deaths due to the floods in the rainy season, vortex in the river are commonly reported every year.
