Jogger Crosses 33rd State
July 20, 2014, Klamath Falls, Oregon: Brian Stark, 41 from Tucson, Arizona, also known as The States Runner, will run across Oregon and Idaho in a 600 mile solo trail run from July 20-August 3, 2014. Stark will be using the Oregon section of the Pacific Crest Trail from the California / Oregon border north to the Oregon / Washington border. From there he will be shuttled to Spokane, Washington where he will begin a double crossing of northern Idaho using a network of rail trails called the Bitterroot 300. Stark will have a one-person support crew who will meet him most evenings to resupply him with food and provide shelter as he runs
between 40-60 miles per day.
Stark’s ultimate goal is to cross all 50 states on foot and this trip will complete his 32nd and 33rd states. Each year he covers between one and two states. His biggest trip was in 1998 when Stark ran 4,800 miles from Delaware to California using a network of trails called the American Discovery Trail.
His fastest state was Nevada where he ran 496 miles in 11 days, 7 hours and 28 minutes while crossing 15 mountain ranges, 6 state parks and 37,000 feet of climbing.
When asked which state has been the most beautiful, Stark responds, “Everywhere I’ve gone, people tell me that they live in the most beautiful place in the world and so far, they’ve been right!”
For the past three years, Stark has produced short video documentaries about his state runs.
