    Hanging out with California Roadrunner

Look at those Great Eyes (ok eye)!

Spike the Roadrunner seems to enjoy spending part of his day hanging out with our family. Yesterday my husband was making a new home for Arnold the Tortoise (another story to be told) and Spike kept following him around the yard. He/she would stop & look & get up close to see what my hubby was doing. It is almost like having a small child on your heels watching & asking questions.  The photos that show him sitting on the wall with the water bottle & broom/shovel handles nearby, were taken during the 'supervising' of my hubby's work.

Make note of Spike's great HairDo!  In some of the pics (#2 & #3) you can see that he has used a bit more 'product' to get his 'spike' up.  Too cute.  He uses it as part of his expressions & I guess maybe to cool him off a bit?  Not sure but he raises it up & down as you can see in the photos.  Also note the great decoration under his tail in Photo #1.
Today I was cooling off in the jacuzzi (turned down for the summer to a cool 96) when Spike arrived. He's always quite chatty and didn't disappoint today. He was sitting on the ground, then up on the wall & before I knew it he was on the edge of the spa & then right up in my face....before he slid off the edge and into the water!  I was taking video & have it right up to when he was in my face a split second before he  fell in...I guess I hit the off button about the same time. Startled us both. Then I have video of him  wet, sitting on the wall trying to figure out what the heck just happened.  You can see him pull a bit of 'down' (he's young) out while he's sitting there & it flys away in the wind.  It was HOT today so I'm sure he felt better.  Earlier I was giving a 'rain shower' to one of our Mesquite trees when Spike arrived.  Once he realized it was raining he spread his arms/wings out as if to catch every drop.  It was very cute & he was nicely covered with a thin layer of water when I was done. One of the few times I didn't have my camera on me. Next time!

By the way, we don't know if Spike is a boy or a girl...and as far as I know, you can't really tell by just looking at them.  Cute either way!

    Note the BIG nails.
