    Remembering those on Flight MH17

    More from omekongo

My wife's colleagues among the dead

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     The wife of Omekongo Dibinga is presenting at the AIDS conference in Australia, where a number of passengers from MH17 had been heading. While Kendra Blackett-Dibinga told her husband that no one she knew was on the plane, she said the mood at the conference is “just shock and disbelief.” Blackett-Dibinga works with Save the Children helping to develop programs for children who have been orphaned by AIDS.

"It could literally be any one of us. People flying to an AIDS conference get blown out of the sky. We have to really stop and take pause of what we're doing on this planet,” said Dibinga, who lives in Washington D.C.

My wife Kendra is presenting at the International AIDS Conference in Australia. She just informed me that over 100 people on the flight were researchers heading to the conference. Anyone of us could have been on this plane. This is just beyond tragic but we must use this time to reflect on peace building.
