    Beauty of the California Roadrunner

    LOOK at those Beautiful Eyelashes!

Spike is a young Roadrunner just beginning to get to know the world he has been born into. Since he hangs out at our home for a bit each day, we have had time to watch him. I was outside when he arrived earlier today and of course had my camera ready for what he might do. He sat up on the block wall for a few minutes just enjoying the sun & wind (which he seemed to be interested in).  The block wall is a great 'roadway' for him to walk around the property if he wants.  It gives him a nice high view of what's going on.  He caught a couple of bugs & a flying insect of some sort. I later also gave him 3 very small (a bit bigger than a green pea size) hamburger balls which I have frozen & keep on hand. We only give him a snack maybe 3 days a week. He will take it right out of my hand.  I break each one in 2-3 chunks.   I'll have to take a 'selfie' of the 2 of us lol lol.
I'm always struck by his good looks. His feathers are beautiful black, white & green shows in the right light. He still has a lot of down feathers.  Photos 3 & 5 give you a good look at the baby down feathers on his chest & tummy.
What I was most stuck by today when I downloaded the photographs, was how LONG his Eyelashes are!

After about 30 minutes he turned around & walked through the side wrought iron gate & off to enjoy the rest of his dy.
Enjoy the many looks of Spike the California Roadrunner.
