This iReport is part of an assignment:
Remembering those on Flight MH17
MH17: Helen Borgsteede
I felt the urge to share this with you.
Helen was my daughter Alissa's elementary school teacher at "BS de Cirkel" elementary school in Amstelveen, Netherlands. Yesterday, I have heard Helen's and her friend Frank van der Weide's tragic ends from my wife, who is a so-called "class mother" of my daughter's class. Today, my wife, another class mother and some kids from Helen's class went to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to lay flowers and pay respect to Helen and the other victims of MH17.
Helen most satisfying thing in teaching was to teach children arithmetic and challenge them to come up with solutions. She also loved teaching history and do creative activities with the children. Also, Helen liked to travel and visit other countries and was exited to travel to Asia for this summer holiday.
Helen was a sweet and cheerful school teacher, with a promising life still ahead of her. It is hard to imagine that she is no longer here with us. My thoughts and condolences go out to her family and friends.
Next Monday, the elementary school will open from 19:00 to 20:00 for the children, their parents and teaching staff for a short memorial and condolence registration.
