The Grand Bazaar of Istanbul, Turkey - One of the Largest Jewelry Markets in the World
The Grand Bazaar (Kapalıçarşı in Turkish) located in Istanbul, Turkey has between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors who come to shop and browse its 3,000 plus stores every day. What many who visit do not see is that it is an actual working market. Turkey is one of the top exporters of jewelry - from gold to silver and from diamonds to gemstones. Centuries old techniques have been passed down through families and communities which are today being combined with technology to widen the market to an even bigger audience - internet shoppers. Grand Bazaar Jewelers are renowned for their skills and handcrafted work. Armenian Christians, Greeks, and Jewish artisans have traditionally been the backbone of the market and now work along side Turkish Muslims to create jewelry beloved by everyone from Sultans to Hollywood Royalty to the lucky tourists who get to experience this beautiful city that spans two continents for themselves.
