In Williamson, WV, we are making the healthy choice easy by creating more opportunities to eat healthy foods. We launched a farmers market, community gardens, cooking classes, agriculture workshops and our doctors give prescription vegetables to patients during the growing season. At the gardens, volunteers constructed more raised beds which we rent for five bucks each year to residents in the neighborhood. The demand for more space to grow food increases each year along with garden participation and production. In a county with only one grocery store, we found that people were more likely to eat healthy when we make healthy food accessible. Thats our story, and we're sticking to it.
