    Why Amazon Fire will get soaked

    Amazon's newly announced smartphone, the Fire, missed the boat. Amazon had an opportunity to deliver something groundbreaking but instead will deliver another contender.

    While the phone has some nice features, such as Firefly, push button technology to instantly identify and take action on just about anything, Mayday, live tech support and impressive camera features, they aren't enough to put the new phone in the lead.

    It seems when designing the Fire, Amazon focused on ways to keep customers connected to Amazon. Mayday puts customers in touch with Amazon support. Firefly sends customers to the Amazon store to get details on items they scan, just in case they wanted to buy them on the spot.

    For Amazon, getting in the middle of the pack may be enough to increase product sales from it's online store, which is ultimately what it's after.

    But Amazon could have done so much better.

    Amazon could have incorporated the features of the Fire TV into the Fire smartphone, giving customers the ability to stream movies on any television at home, in a hotel room or anywhere else. Incorporating the Fire TV into the Fire smartphone would have allowed Amazon to create the first Smartphone with a built in media player. It's just a matter of time before one of the other players in the market, Apple or Samsung, produce such a phone, but it's such a shame that Amazon failed to see the need for such a device, especially when it marketed both devices back to back, and called them both 'Fire'.
