Christmas in July for the Needy

It was 'Christmas in July' for Christian Help Foundation, Inc. in Central Florida on July 24, 2014. The annual event is a source of funding for supplying the community needy with gifts. At the event, the President of Christian Help, Sandi Vidal, was presented with a Rotary commemorative coin to honor her tireless work in helping to meet vocational and nutritional needs of Central Floridians.

The ChristianHelp.Org site states that 'Christmas in July' helps to "offer community Christmas programs through which we provide toys to children and teens whose families are not able to give them Christmas presents. Throughout the year, extra toys are used as birthday gifts as supplies are available." The event included a live and silent auction of local business people and philanthropists.

Dick Wilson, a member of Northland, A Church Distributed, was "inspired to found the organization over two decades ago while attending a revival at the Canterbury Retreat and Conference Center, where Christmas in July is held each year". Wilson told the CNN iReporter, "The idea was to step out of the sanctuary and into the community to help empower the unemployed and needy".

“Service Above Self”, Rotary International’s motto, is on one side of the coin presented to the President of Christian Help. On the other side of the ceremonial coin is the The Four-Way Test. It states “Of the things we think, say or do 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”

iReporter and Rotary Club of Lake County Golden Triangle member, Dr. Phyllis Olmstead (Dr O) presented the "Service Above Self and Four-Way Test" coin at the conclusion of the Christmas in July Event. The Rotary Club of Lake County Golden Triangle is in District 6980 and Region 34 in the USA of Rotary International, a association of clubs in 207 countries.
