    Andean Flamingos taking flight

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     vrac captured this photo from the Sico Pass, a mountain pass through the Andes on the Argetina-Chile border. He was on a bicycle tour from Patagonia in southern Argentina to Portland, Oregon. "The birds plus the mountain backdrop convinced me to get off the bike and walk along the salt lake to take the photo," he said. "I don't consider myself to be a bird-watcher, but I love to take photos of them in nature when I can (birds tend to be among the tougher subjects to shoot, unless you have a long lens/tripod setup and are patient to hide somewhere until the appear)." A bird enthusiast who follows the iReporter's blog identified these birds as rare Andean Flamingos.
