VIDEO: Ukraine's Ambassador to the UN believes that Russia is funding and supplying weapons to militants in eastern Ukraine
NEW YORK, USA – JULY 26, CNN iReport – The Malaysian "Boeing 777" MH-17 disaster and Russia's involvement in the annexation of Crimea and the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine are the major topics of discussion this week heard at the UN. The Security Council has been recently accused of inaction and ineffectiveness.
Just a few hours before the tragic "Boeing" catastrophe, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Yuriy Sergeyev presented to the UN evidence of Russia's deep involvement in the conflict in eastern Ukraine. All information was personally handed over to members of the Security Council and Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon by Ambassador Yuriy Sergeyev.
Ukraine's Ambassador to the UN Yuriy Sergeyev, shared his point of view:
"We demonstrated photo and video facts - proofs on the direct Russian involvement in the situation in Ukraine. We presented the photos and documentation confirming that Russia keeps supplying the heavy weaponry, keeps supplying financial assistance, training to the mercenaries on their territories, organizing the corridors for them to come in. We inform that all the leaders in the rebelling republics - they have Russian citizenship. Namely, the "Prime minister of Luhansk", namely the so-called "Prime Minister of Donetsk". We use this opportunity to address once again the world community to stop aggression, we address once again to the world media to stop the falsification of information and in social nets from the Russian territory, which has been accused as information weaponry. Two main messages - naturally, we expect support and we expect the solidarity from the world, which we have already got from the membership in the United Nations while supporting the Resolution on Territorial integrity of Ukraine last March" - Said Ambassador Sergeyev.
The Ukrainian mission is confident that the evidence that The Security Service of Ukraine (or SBU) had been carefully collecting for several months, will finally give proof for serious charges against Moscow. With no concrete evidence the UN Security Council could only "express concern" for situations in Ukraine. Тhe lobbies of the UN have long known whose interests militants in eastern Ukraine are serving.
