When in Sydney, Australia, we had all-day ferry tickets that we wanted to use so as not to waste them. We found a place called Cockatoo Island on the ferry map and decided on a whim to give it a try. We found a treasure that is not in the travel guides, as it was the island the Australian Navy used to build it's ships from country inception until only a few decades ago. Now, there are the abandoned shipyard buildings, the remains of a penal colony, and at the time we were there a huge art installation all over the island incorporated into the landscape. This photo is of one of the exhibits, a courtyard full of bamboo wind chimes. I was particularly impressed with the symmetry and the way the shadows actually become part of the art.
