By now there is serious realization that EBOLA virus could potentially become a global problem with infected persons taking flights out of the regions in Western Africa affected by Ebola spread. CNN has done an outstanding job of keeping us informed about the developments in that region and a scenario of potential spread. Knee jerk reaction is of course to contain the infection within the regions that have cases of Ebola deaths. These include restriction of travel from the region to other areas, quarantine and decontamination of passengers arriving from the region to other locations. Stopping the panic that is generated by lack of trustworthy medical attention from humanitarian organizations. Building make shift facilities and sending the Naval Hospital ship to the region that was mobilized for the Haiti crisis. these are all logistical things but there should be more than that. There is somewhere in our natural medicine chest or synthetic drugs/compounds that could be deployed. A Google search Natural antiviral human viral infections will come up with a link listed in the image above. It will become evident that there are broad spectrum antivirals in pomegranate juice that can neutralize enveloped viruses. Although there are no reports of testing on Ebola virus, in my opinion there is a very good possibility that the juice has compounds that could neutralize Ebola and could provide an extend period for the patient to develop their own immune system. As it appears time is of the essence. After infection with Ebola there is a race against time between the virus multiplying fast and destroying tissues and organs of the body and the person developing a protective immunity that will overcome the infection and get cured. Getting hydrated and well nourished at the same time receiving antiviral compounds from pomegranate could provide that much need window by slowing down the spread of the virus within the body as well as to other persons. Virologists need to brain storm and find solutions and elicit opinions and stem the high tide of Ebola advance from becoming an Ebola Tsunami.
