CANOBIE LAKE PARK: 1902
- Jareen, CNN iReport producer
CANOBIE LAKE PARK is an amusement park that has been enjoyed by many generations for over 100 years.
The vintage park located in Salem, New Hampshire offers 50 plus rides and amusements including a train, Ferris wheel, log flume, several roller coasters, kiddie rides, musical shows and a water park. The hand painted carousel is still in operation today since the park originally opened in 1902. The wooden roller coaster is also still in operation since it was moved to the park in the 1930’s. Even though Canobie Lake Park still offers some of its original rides, it also offers thrill type rides for teens and the young at heart. The park now offers Halloween entertainment weekends from mid September through November 1.
I remember visiting Canobie Lake as a child and going on the toddler boat ride and small swings. When I was a little older, I remember roller-skating in the hall now used for the musical shows. I also used coins to operate several carnival type games with my brother and even won a few prizes for my efforts. My mom also frequented the park when she was young in the 1940’s and 1950’s and has many fond memories of her youth.
Canobie Lake Park still entertains all ages and will continue to offer something new for generations to come.
