Atlas V Rocket launches from Space Coast

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Late into the evening, Skinnywater stood outside his home in Cocoa, Florida, waiting to see the Atlas V Rocket launch on August 1. “Night launches are always more dramatic,” he said. Close to 11:30 p.m. he photographed the rocket flying straight up through the clouds from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. He has been watching launches since 1973. “Just because the shuttle program ended doesn’t mean the space program ended,” he said.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

The third GPS launch of 2014 took place on Friday evening, with the United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V lofting the GPS IIF-7 satellite. Liftoff from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station’s Space Launch Complex 41 was on schedule at 23:23 local time following a smooth countdown.
