Casablanca and Marrakech: The soul of Morocco

Stayed in the old medina in the youth hostel. The area around the old medina where the souks are present is a place where the excitement lies in the evening otherwise I found Casablanca as a dull place which you compare with other financial centers in the world although the locals would probably disagree with me to the hilt. Anyways also went to the conrniche where they say all the fun of casa lies but I have a different opinion. The next day early in the morning went to the most recognized place of casa- the Hassan 2 mosque. The mosque is a gem considering it was built in record time and the structure is humungous. It’s got a lot of detail with intricately carved doors and ceilings which have retractable roofs and amazing chandeliers. The speakers are not visible to the eye – a Moroccan ingenuity in making them invisible.

Besides it’s got a huge Hamam, a shower area, although it’s just there you can’t use it. The courtyard of the mosque can accommodate more than 90,000 worshippers which makes it a very big assembly of people. Besides, being on the Atlantic Ocean would take a toll on the mosques architecture because of salinity and other weather induced extremities but they have been taken very good care because of the material used. The pillars of the mosque have been coated with egg yolk!! That was news to me didn’t know egg yolk is a construction material.
Anyways I think I still won’t be able to explain this architectural gem – a must see for any tourist.
