    The lure of lighthouses

    West Quoddy Head Lighthouse

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     yeewiz found this lighthouse to be particularly photogenic: 'Classic lighthouse building and tower on a scenic plot without distracting backgrounds or artifacts. Very easy to shoot well.'
    - hhanks, CNN iReport producer

The West Quoddy Head Lighthouse is located in the easternmost point of land in the United States near the town of Lubec, Maine. Originally built with a wooden tower in 1808, the current brick tower was constructed in 1857. The lighthouse was automated in 1988 and continues to be a working lighthouse.

West Quoddy was one of 18 lighthouses photographed on a Maine and New Brunswick, Canada lighthouse and lobster eating roadtrip in 2013. Visit my blog of that trip at to see more lighthouses.
