    Your 'Aha' weight-loss moments

    I lost 137 lbs!

I weighed 360 pounds and I was sick! I went to the doctor. My complaint: My joints are attacking me. Dr. Constantine is a great guy, and gave me the predicted "lose weight" speech. He offered to hook me up with a terrific dietician. I said "Doc, I think a child of four knows how to lose weight. My problem is that I don't care. If you have someone that can make me WANT to lose weight, that could be of help." Of course, he cannot. Could not.

May times, I have prayed for help in losing weight. But as I drove home, I thought about what I told the doctor, and I prayed for the DESIRE to lose weight and be healthier. That was a Monday.

I was drinking 10-12 beers a night, so I knew that I was going to have to cut WAY down on the beer if I was going to be successful. I decided that I would have two beers on Friday night, and no more.

On my way home from Sunday school that Sunday, I remembered that I had not had my Friday night beers! I hadn't had a single drink since I left the doctor's office. I thought "well, I'll have my two beers during the race when I get home." But quickly it dawned on my that if I could forget them on Friday night, there was no need for it at all. I had already lost several pounds, so I was motivated. I WANTED to lose weight. I went home and threw a SIGNIFICANT amount of alcohol (beer and whiskey) in the dumpster.

I grew a desire and a taste for healthy eating and healthy cooking. Old unhealthy desires for bad foods has been replaced with a taste for foods that compliment my DESIRE to lose weight.

I still have 23 pounds to lose, but I feel terrific! I was able to stop taking blood pressure medicine, and I have significantly reduced the pressure on my CPAP machine, and probably won't even need it in a few more pounds.

When people ask me how I did it, I simply "pray for the desire to be healthy, and then do what you want to do."
