This iReport is part of an assignment:
The written word: Your personal essays
A Wise Woman: Mother Teresa
You know how there are certain people, places, or things that make you smile?
Well, reading quotes by people I find inspirational and/or brilliant have that effect on me.
They fuel my spirit and often-times give me some much needed wisdom.
So, I've compiled a few things that Mother Teresa of Calcutta has said throughout her years of serving and loving. I hope these words will speak to you, too...
“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.”
“The most terrible poverty is loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved.”
“It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”
“A life not lived for others is not a life.”
“I would rather make mistakes in kindness and compassion than work miracles in unkindness and hardness.”
“Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.”
“Love to be real, it must cost—it must hurt—it must empty us of self.”
“People are unrealistic, illogical, and self-centered. Love them anyway.”
“Pain and suffering have come into your life, but remember pain, sorrow, suffering are but the kiss of Jesus - a sign that you have come so close to Him that He can kiss you.”
“Intense love does not measure it just gives. ”
“I must be willing to give whatever it takes to do good to others. This requires that I be willing to give until it hurts. Otherwise, there is no true love in me, and I bring injustice, not peace, to those around me.
“There are many people who can do big things, but there are very few people who will do the small things.”
“People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered. Love them anyway. If you do good, people may accuse you of selfish motives. Do good anyway. If you are successful, you may win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Honesty and transparency make you vulnerable. Be honest and transparent anyway. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway. People who really want help may attack you if you help them. Help them anyway. Give the world the best you have and you may get hurt. Give the world your best anyway.”
“Profound joy of the heart is like a magnet that indicates the path of life.”
“Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.”
"Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier."
“We are all pencils in the hand of God.”
“One of the greatest diseases is to be nobody to anybody;”
“I am not sure exactly what heaven will be like, but I know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, he will not ask, 'How many good things have you done in your life?' rather he will ask, 'How much love did you put into what you did?”
**Upon researching these quotes, I've read that some may not be spoken by Mother Teresa, however they are inspirational none-the-less.
