CLOSING CEREMONIES FOR THE MATEEN CLEAVES “1 GOAL, 1 PASSION ” SUMMER BASKETBALL CAMPS TO BE HELD AT KETTERING UNIVERSITY IN FLINT, MICHIGAN ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 7 Speakers Include NBA Star Chris Webber and Entrepreneur David Tarver
WHAT: NBA Star Chris Webber, and Entrepreneur David Tarver, will join Mateen Cleaves and celebrity coaches including members of the 2000 MSU NCAA Championship team and NBA players Morris Peterson, Charlie Bell, Antonio Smith, Andre Hutson, Thomas “T.K.” Kelly, and Draymond Green to celebrate the achievements of children participating in the 2nd Annual Mateen Cleaves “1 Goal, 1 Passion” summer basketball camps presented by Grand Rapids, Mich. –based retailer Meijer.
The 2014 Frances E. Cleaves Community Hero Award will also be presented during the morning session at the 11:30a.m.,ET, ceremony.
The ceremonies mark the end of a series of three-day camps held in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint, Lansing and Benton Harbor. Over 1.000 children participated in this year’s camps to learn basic life skills including goal-setting , self-esteem exercises, environmental awareness as well as health and nutrition education, character development, and basketball drills. The camps are sponsored in part by Coca-Cola, United Wholesale Mortgage, Champion and Fathead. Transportation for participating youth is provided by Dean Transportation.

Two sessions will be held to cater to different age groups and will each feature a championship game followed by an awards presentation.
Session I: 11a.m. to Noon, ET. (8- to 12-year-olds)
Session II: 3p.m. to 4 p.m., ET (13- to 17-year-olds)

ABOUT: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint is a positive and safe place for all children, with special attention for those from challenged circumstances, to attend after school, on select Saturdays and during the summer. It costs only $10 per year for a child to become a member (assistance available), while the actual cost of providing service is about $350 per child. The difference is made up through grants, foundations, individual donors and support from corporate partners. The Boys & Girls Club provides programming to 1,800 local youngsters in five core areas: Sports, Fitness & Recreation, the Arts, Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, and Health & Life Skills.
