This iReport is part of an assignment:
    The lure of lighthouses

    Cape Hatteras Light Station, NC

My family and some friends were supposedly visit this famed lighthouse in 2013. Due to its distant location from the northern part of the Outerbanks in North Carolina, we ended up visiting the closer Bodie Lighthouse in Nags Head, NC. However, the desire to visit the place persisted and so we promised to come back and see it in person. Last July of 2014 we finally had the opportunity of seeing it in spite of the many hours of travel, road construction and scattered thunderstorm along the way. It was towering and gorgeous! I also learned later on that it is the tallest lighthouse in North America and was relocated in 1999 from the spot it had stood since 1870 to several thousands of feet away due to shoreline erosion.
