For our first wedding anniversary in May 2001, my husband & I borrowed a motorcycle from our dear friends in England and rode North to Scotland in a pouring rain storm. My husband refused to look at a road map, much to my chagrin, and we proceeded without plans, reservations or a set agenda. With only one saddle bag to live out of for each of us (I had only 2 t-shirts, 2 blue jeans, 3 undies & a bottle of woolite), we rode through Scotland for ten days and visited 13 castles, including 7 of the 10 'Great Houses of Scotland'. It was one of the best trips of our lives, and I earned life long, irrevocable brownie points for traveling in the manner my husband prefers. This is one of my favorite photos of Culzean Castle on the Ayrshire coast; I'm standing under the arch in my motorcycle gear holding my helmet. P.S. The following year our vacation was my preferred style with luggage, hotel reservations & a daily agenda, and we alternated styles every year after that.
