    Edinburgh's Hidden Village

My wife and I are Scots from Edinburgh who married, stayed in Scotland until we were in our late 20's, then emigrated to Silicon Valley, California, where we have now spent more than half of our lives. We get Home regularly and make a point of playing "tourist" for some of the time, enjoying all the sights and sounds that Scotland has to offer.

One "gem" that we always return to is the Dean Village, which is very close to the west end of the city center, yet not obvious to most tourists. As often as we can, we will walk the trails along the "Water of Leith" river and enjoy the sights, sounds, wildlife, etc.

If you get to Edinburgh, be sure to allow time to walk up Queensferry Street from the West End of Princes Street, then drop down Bell's Brae to the Dean Village. After exploring the village, take either the west path along the river to Murrayfield or the east trail to Stockbridge. If you have time, do both!
