Princes St. - not Princess St.

A common misconception is that Edinburgh's main street is pronounced "Princess Street" but in reality it is "Princes Street". Why? Because it was named after King George III's two eldest sons, Prince George, Duke of Rothesay (later King George IV) and his brother Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany. Hence it is the plural of Prince and not the female Princess.
