    Hill of the Angels

Touring Scotland for this first time this May I was struck by the varied grandeur of this incredible country. Enormous mountains of the highlands pouring "Tears of the Giants," sweeping peat bogs, emerald fields with sheep and highland coos, lush gardens and snow-capped peaks, I fell in love with this country on the spot.

Hill of the Angels is located on the Isle of Iona on the west side of Scotland. To get there, one must take a ferry from the mainland to Isle of Mull, and then another short ferry ride to the Isle of Iona.

Iona is known as the "cradle of Christianity" into Scotland. St. Columba founded Iona Abbey back in 563AD. Currently, one can find ruins of the nunnery and St. Ronan's Chapel in addition to Iona Abbey and other historical buildings. We spied as well a massive community garden filled with vegetables of all kinds that the locals maintain.

Hill of the Angels captured my fancy because the story goes that St. Columba prayed here evenings during the setting sun. The island is lush and green surrounded by clear waters. It's a peaceful and beautiful place to visit.
