    Supermoon in the Desert

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     baowens had a very specific idea in mind when he shot this photo. 'I woke up at 3:00 a.m. to drive and get in position to watch it setting. The timing was perfect with the sun rising behind me with a few mountains to shield the direct sunlight. This helped the sky be as blue as it was with the perfect orange glow to the moon itself. It was much more beautiful in person and very majestic!'

My travel and work schedule, combined with the weather - never seem to allow me an opportunity to see certain events such as meteor showers & super moons! I had a feeling things would work out though today! I woke up at 2:30 am with very little sleep to drive out of town a bit and onto the other side of the mountain range. I was rewarded with an amazing view that was better than any harvest moon I've seen! As the sun was rising behind me - but shielded quite a bit by the mountain range still - the sky was bright blue and combined with the atmosphere to create a very orange moon! To see it setting amongst the giant Saguaro Cactus of the Sonoran Desert made it even more majestic!
