CNN iReport Music Spotlight: Interview With Budding Rap Stars Spitta Gang

What is the significance of your name?
Spitta Gang we came up with because a slang word used for rapping is “spitting” and gang is more than one. There is no affiliation to any criminal activity because we are against that.

    Who is your target market?
We’d like to think our music is universal and transcends age, color, creed etc… The market we seem to reach most is 20 – 45.

What is your USP? (Unique Selling Proposition) and what sets you apart from other Hip Hop artists?
We are the only Hip Hop couple where both artist rap most of the time one raps and one sings or vice versa. We have hard hitting lyrics and a true passion for music. It’s guaranteed you won’t find a male/female duo that goes as hard as us, touches all the topics we touch and remain positive all the same time.

What single or project are you currently pushing?
We are pushing our single “Chevy Rydyn” which is on YouTube , Vimeo ,iTunes and many digital markets.

What is the philosophy by which you live by?
Our philosophy is “With God for me who can be against me.

    Which artists have inspired you?

Artists who inspired us include: Nas,Jayz,Queen Latifah,Rakim,Lil Kim,Tribe Called Quest,Tupac,Ice Cube,Master P and many others.

    Who does your production?
We use Raseac Studios in Philadephia Pa. As far as producers we work with several to name a few; Mazik Beats, Midnite Music, T Kees, Miclarry among others.

What is your opinion of the current state of the music industry?
Very dark, sad a lot of negativity promoted we want to bring joy and hope back to the masses along with a belief in something higher than yourself. We need more variety desperately, the youth are starving for it most of all. Lord willing we will have to the chance to be that spark, that breath of fresh air in hip hop.

If you can change one thing about the music industry what would it be and why?

I would change all of the negativity. Hip hop is flooded more than any other genre with misogyny, violence, classism etc. I would love to show more variety and tap into the more positive/lyrical music today’s generation is lacking.

Are there any singers that you would like to collaborate with in the future?
We would love to work with Lloyd, Mario, Drake and several R&b groups form the 90’s.

What producer would you like to collaborate with in the future?
We would like to collab with Jahlil Beats, Swizz Beats, Timbaland, Dre Dre, Shorty Red, Mannie Fresh, Dj Quik, Daz, Pharrell and more.

What is your favorite movie and favorite book?
NTG – Love Jones (movie) A Child Called it (book)
Yung Draw – Enter the Dragon (movie) The Mafia Dynasty (book)

What are some major misconceptions that you think people have of you?
Most people think artist are cocky and conceited we are the opposite we are hungry and humble.

What is your favorite part of your live show?
We love feeding off the energy of the crowd, what a rush.

    What is your website?
    www.phillyntg.com

Any final words for the people.

Be open to new talent, look beyond what’s popular, a fad or trend, good music, truly good music is timeless. Listen to the lyrics and make way for Ntg & Yung Draw what’s the games missing, the true love and hip hop.
