CNN iReport Music Spotlight: Interview With Rapstress Novaray
Give us some background info as to who you are.
My name is Novaray. I'm a female rapper originally from Detroit, but I currently reside in Los Angeles, CA. I’m also an actress and a dancer. I've been making a major impact in the music scene and beyond. Music is my passion. Music is my life. I immerse myself in music and use my gift to entertain and inform. I'm the type of female who believes in keepin it 100! But more importantly, I am a go getter. I create my own films and I write my own music.
Who is your target market?
My target market is comprised of music lovers ages 13 to 30. I feel that females of all races will identify with me. All girls need to be empowered and uplifted and as women we need to become more in tuned with our self-esteem. We need to uplift each other and not tear each other down. I also want to speak to men and educate men on how important it is to do right by women in general.
What single or project are you currently pushing?
The single I am currently pushing right now is a song called "Unconditional Love,” which is something we are all seeking. The music video to the song has been well received and the single is impacting major mixshows around the country.
Which artists have inspired you?
I've been influenced and inspired by MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Beyonce, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown and even Nicki Minaj, because she has re-opened the door for female rappers that had been closed for so many years.
What are some major misconceptions that you think people have of you?
The Major misconception is that people assume that because I am a female and I model, dance and rap, that I don’t know the business. I am very in tuned with the business side of the music industry. My mission is to become a mogul and inspire other females to do the same.
What is your favorite part of your live show? How has it evolved?
My favorite part of my live show is interacting with the crowd and seeing them enjoy my music just as much as I do. It has evolved in that I am more creative on stage now than when I started out. When you come out to a Novaray concert, be prepared to be totally entertained and amazed.
What is your album going to be like?
My LP will be exciting, relevant and current to events and lifestyles people live right now! I will touch on sensitive topics that artists are afraid to speak about that people face every day! But all in all it will be motivating and thrilling. Every song will be worth listening to.
Do you have any final words for the people?
Be on the lookout for Novaray, because I am coming to make a major impact on the game. Also, stay focused and stay positive. Believe in yourself and you will go far.. One Love
