Ms. Roth has issued a video challenge on her Facebook page to her teens that anyone who donates to ALS (or the charitable cause of their choice) can dump a bucket of ice water on HER at their Fall Conversation.
Even more meaningful is Ms. Roth's video, which explains what ALS is and how it destroys the body but not the mind.
Instead of making it about the act of dumping ice water on your head and posting a video on Facebook, Ms. Roth has made it a true teachable moment, with a little fun thrown in. The teens are rising to the challenge, donating money and are excited to make Nikki "freezing cold at Fall Convention!"
The Rocky Mountain Region of BBYO includes Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and Albuquerque, NM. BBYO is the leading pluralistic Jewish youth movement and serves over 18,000 teens worldwide.
Here's Ms. Roth's Facebook post and the video:
Thanks to Dylan Lander for nominating me for the #icebucketchallenge! It's important to raise real awareness about ALS, which has no known cause or cure and destroys the muscles in the body until it shuts down the lungs and leads to death. This our opportunity to make a real difference by donating to help researchers find a cure and #StrikeOutALS! I am challenging the chapters, teens, and advisors of BBYO Rocky Mountain Region to donate $10 or more to the charity of your choice by Fall Convention. Any member, chapter, or advisor who accepts this challenge can dump a bucket of ice water on my head at convention! Together, we can make a real difference!
