In 1981 or '82, I went to the Punch Line in San Francisco by myself. I couldn't get a date that night and I was determined to go even if it meant sitting by myself. I can't remember who was the opening act or which comedian was the headliner but in between acts the MC informed the crowd that a special guest would follow up the headliner. I was real surprised when I saw Robin Williams jump on stage. Keep in mind that the Punch Line had two shows a night- and early eve and late eve- It was already about 11pm when Robin showed up. Robin was hilarious. He had the audience in tears for the next 2 hours. I had been to the Punch Line before but never that late. If my memory is correct, It was close to 1am when we all left. I remember Robin was exhausted afterwards yet he gave a show at the Punch Line that I have never forgotten after all these years. My friends at first didn't believe that I saw Robin Williams yet I remember he got a good review in the paper the next day.
