This iReport is part of an assignment:
Dry Cleaning a Golden Retriever
In 1985 I had the privilege of being the design architect for film director Robert Altman and his wife Kathryn’s Manhattan residence in a unique building that I also designed and resided in as well. While picking up my dry cleaning on Columbus Avenue at 70th Street, along with my Golden Retriever Jesse, I noticed Robin Williams at the counter dressed in a trench coat his with collar turned up trying to be inconspicuous. Seeing celebrities In Manhattan was a common occurrence and affording them their privacy is generally observed. But, because of my connection to Altman (Williams starred in Popeye) I felt entitled to say something. So to break the ice I said “They (the dry cleaners) do wonderful jobs with Goldens”. With that said the turtles head came out of the trench coat and Williams launched into an ad lib routine on Golden Retriever’s being dry cleaning. As quick as it started he must have realized that his anonymity was at stake and he retreated back into his trench coat with his thoughts. We went our separate ways with a smile and I never got the opportunity to mention Bob and Kathryn Altman. It saddens me that both he and Bob are gone now - two enormously talented individuals.
