The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) is a jihadist group that is widely regarded as a terrorist organization by many. Under their self-proclaimed status, they claim religious authority over all Muslims across the world and aspires to bring much of the Muslim-inhabited regions of the world under its direct political control. ISIS is known for its extreme interpretation of the Islamic faith and sharia law along with their increasing brutal violence. They are an extreme group that follows Al-qaeda’s hard-line ideology and adheres to global jihadist principles. They promote religious violence and regard those who do not agree with their interpretations as infidels and apostates. The ISIS objective is the establishment of a worldwide caliphate, to create a pure Islamic state, and have their own ruling on conquered territory.
I believe ISIS is a potential serious threat to the U.S because of its once close ties with Al-Qaeda, which of course with no successful terrorist attacks in the states since 9/11, but with their sights narrowed within Iraq at the moment, it is unpredictable. Since 9/11, The U.S has went from reactive to preventive and would take any degree of any possibility of any threat very serious. With that in mind, still, we have taken some action in the matter by sending supplies to Iraq for the government and people to fight back against the ISIS.
I feel the U.S should and will take response once any attempt or threat that is directed towards the U.S. in any manner. I think the U.S. could help out some more by offering more supplies or combat training to the resistance of that of the ISIS, but once a clear directed threat or attempt has been made against the U.S. there will be a reaction. I still can’t believe we haven’t been more “preventive” yet in the matter.
