Local Senior’s Schedule Reads Like That of a 30-Year-Old
“If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it,” said Connely. “I’ve come to learn that retirement isn’t just about stopping what you were doing, but more about starting what you’ve always wanted to do.”
Connely says she works out more now than she did during her younger years. With the variety of exercise classes at The Buckingham, she is able to participate in a strength training class three times per week and also enjoys water aerobics twice per week.
“Her energy and love for life is contagious,” said Cathy Lightfoot, director of sales and marketing at The Buckingham. “She is an intelligent woman and personifies what seniors are like today. They don’t just sit around and watch TV. They are on the go constantly, doing things they love. I see it every day. Margaret is an inspiration to me and many others here at The Buckingham.”
Growing up with a love for history and the arts, Connely has enjoyed being a docent for the past 12 years at Bayou Bend American Decorative Arts Wing of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
“Working at the museum has gifted me the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people over the years,” stated Connely. “I feel like I learn something new each time I work.”
When she’s not working out or giving tours at the Museum of Fine Arts, Connely is a member of the Lifestyles Committee and the Landscaping Committee at The Buckingham and she also enjoys taking part in book clubs. “Intellectual education and socialization have played a big part in keeping me engaged. My friends keep me accountable.”
With no signs of slowing down anytime soon, Connely feels blessed to wake up each day healthy and happy.
“My generation still has a lot to offer,” said Connely. “We may be slower, but we can still do everything. We just want to live and enjoy life.”
