Buckner Westminster Place Adopts Rabbits for Residents to Enjoy

Buckner Westminster Place, a senior living community in Longview, adopted six rabbits after an explosion in the rabbit population. Wes Wells, executive director of Buckner Westminster Place, thought the rabbits would be of great company to the residents and believed they would enjoy having animals to care for in their spare time. The residents like to put out lettuce and carrots, and sometimes leftovers from their meals for them to enjoy. They check on the bunnies daily to make sure they are okay, cuddle them in their arms and watch them play. The residents watch them at all hours of the day. Wells believes the rabbits are therapeutic for the residents and likes that the rabbits bring nature into their lives. They have become quite the conversation topic during evening meals. The community is considering adopting another rabbit. Currently, they have three that live in the assisted living courtyard and three that live inside in the Harbor area.
