VH1 Artist To Watch Frank Peters

Hip hop artist Frank Peters had an incredible year. He was on MTV U and was VH1's Artist To Watch in the spring. We had a few questions to ask Frank:

What bands and life experiences have influenced your songs the most?

There have been a lot of bands that have influenced me, but I would say from an early age it was Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick and Run DMC. A lot of the music taught me a lot about swag, style and women... mainly with Big Daddy Kane.

When it comes to creating your music, how do the lyrics and melody come to you?

It's hard to explain how the lyrics come to me because I'm an emotional writer and an artist, so when I feel the music it just comes to me.

Are your friends and family supportive of your musical career?

Some family and friends are supportive, but most aren't and that's what is a huge fuel for success for me.

What genre would you classify yourself as?

My genre of music is Hip hop/ alternative cause it's not normal rap music; it's better!

Are you self-taught or have you taken lessons?

Yes, very self taught. I analyze a lot of people and my life experiences and incorporate them into my music

What image do you think your music conveys?

My image conveys quite a few things; fun and partying, as well as street savvy realness.

What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?

My personal advice for getting in the game is BE SURE YOU WANT IT BAD ENOUGH! It's hard as cold shit to get in the game and make a name for yourself. Connections are everything so be aware of who you meet and be humble and good natured because that very same person could change your life!
