UC System Requires Students Purchase Its Own Health Insurance

Despite Obamacare mandates for health insurance coverage, the University of California now requires that students purchase its own health insurance unless existing coverage meets stringent requirements. These requirements vary depending on the school. UC schools impose different distance requirements with no rhyme or reason. For example, UC Davis requires a primary physician within 175 miles while UC Santa Barbara requires one within 30 miles. If you cannot meet this requirement with your existing coverage, you must purchase the UC insurance and it is automatically billed to you. Seems like nothing more than a money-grab.
