A List Of The Basic Hydraulic Equipment And Tools Used In Emergency And Rescue Operations

Each country has its share of calamities, natural or man-made: hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes every year. There are also airlines, road and train-related and marine disasters and accidents that are also happening almost on a regular basis wherein dozens of people get seriously hurt and even die.

Most of these calamities are simply not preventable and avoidable. That’s why they are also called accidents for a reason. In certain circumstances that such accidents and calamities happen, it would do well for you to know which persons to contact immediately to help you out when you or another person’s life is in danger. These persons are the emergency rescue team and in some cases, the fire fighters.

The emergency rescue team and fire fighters are not only trained to rescue people by providing them CPR and other life- saving medical procedures but they also have the important necessary equipment and tools to save victims as well. People who are trapped in collapsed buildings, buildings or properties on fire and even in major road accidents have to be safely and securely rescued with the use of a number of specialized tools and equipment which only members of an emergency rescue and fire fighting team have.

Commonly Used Rescue Hydraulic Equipment And Tools

In emergency and rescue situations, the emergency rescue and fire fighting team will be using certain hydraulic equipment and tools. Below are some of the most common ones they regularly use in their important line of work:

Rescue tool power units or power units. This equipment gives power to hydraulic rescue tools including cutters, spreaders and ram jack or rescue rams. A rescue tool power unit is usually a separate small petrol powered engine connected to a hydraulic pump. But there are also certain units or models that can be powered by batteries.

Hydraulic rescue cutters. These hydraulic rescue tools were specifically designed and created to cut through metal. These rescue cutters are particularly powerful and are usually used to rescue and extract victims of severe road traffic collisions by cutting through the involved vehicles’ structures.

Hydraulic rescue spreaders. A rescue spreader is used to spread open a vehicle involved in an accident to rescue the victim trapped inside it. This equipment is oftentimes used with the rescue cutters and ram jacks.

Hydraulic rescue rams or ram jacks. These rams are also regularly used with cutters and spreaders to save and extract victims of vehicular collisions and other types of severe road traffic accidents. The hydraulic rescue ram is used to effectively open the gap in the vehicle structure, such as the car’s indented roof or bent seats, created by a spreader so that they can move further to better help the victim.
