Are You Ready?
How is terrorism defined? The Merriam-Webster dictionary states that terrorism is ‘the use of violent acts to frighten the people in an area as a way of trying to achieve a political goal; the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion’.
ISIS, Al Qaeda, al-Shabaab, al-Nusrah, Boko Haram, Hamas, Hezbollah, Muslim Brotherhood, Haqqani Network, the Taliban, and the Mujahideen… what do these groups have in common? They hate you, and they hate me. They want to annihilate - literally, annihilate anyone who does believe in or follow their agenda.
Imagine living a life so filled with hate. A life filled where your main purpose is a systemic destruction of a single person or an entire country.
So, who are these people? Are they safely ensconced within the borders of their homeland or the nearby ones? Ha! Fat chance. They are here. They are living in our towns, maybe even on your same street. And again, what is the agenda? To overtake and overpower anything or anyone who will not follow their rules. They are out to kill in cold-blood with little or no remorse. Just because we don’t believe in their organization.
These groups are forming at an alarming rate and we now have US citizens defecting in order to wage jihad on the ones they detest……us.
Please note, I do not say that ALL followers of Islam or the Muslim religion to be anything like those self-indulged cowards; but I write this pointedly toward the people who are the extremists. The fanatics. The ones who will take a civilians head and spear it on a fence for the whole town to see. The zealots who thrive on beheading a parent in front of their children; the ones who take young kids and force them into slavery, prostitution, and war.
But, why? WHY?! My heart is heavy when I read of the lives affected so deeply by extreme terrorism. Yet, more and more, we are learning that those terrorists are among us; ready for their call to action. So, my reading of these stories may soon be coming closer and closer to home.
What will you do if you see someone who acts highly suspicious? What will you do if your children come home saying that their friend at school has said that something alarming may be taking place? Are you ready?
No, seriously…. are you ready?
