Lebanon Homeowners Provide Some Great Tips On How To Care For Your Lawn During Autumn

Autumn is considered the best time for you to examine your lawns for signs of summer wear-and-tear, and treat whenever necessary. During this time of the year, any treatment has an excellent time to take effect before temperatures will fall and growth will stop.

    Different Lawn Care Treatments

    Aerating

Aerating your lawns will allow better movement and water in the root zone. Be reminded that a well-aerated lawn will manage better in periods of waterlogging or drought. For an average lawn, it would be sufficient that you aerate every 2-3 years. You must concentrate on areas that receive the most wear. Also, focus on areas that are compacted.

When aerating, you can use a garden fork for small areas, spacing holes 10-15 cm apart and deep. On the other hand, you can make use of a hollow-tine aerator for clay or waterlogged souls every 3-4 years. Know that this will extract plugs of soil from the lawn. After hollow-tinning, you have to sweep up the plugs and then rake a top-dressing into the holes so as to enhance air and temperature penetration.

    Top-Dressing

This is the application of loam, well-rotted organic lawn, and sand to a lawn with an aim of correcting surface irregularities as well as boosting the texture of difficult soils. This will encourage greater rooting and thickening of turf.

    Scarifying or Raking

By doing this regularly, you can keep the levels of thatch at an acceptable level. You must know that layers of thatch greater than 1 cm deep can indeed impede the penetration of water and fertilizer in the root zone. In order to remove thatch, you have to rake vigorously, but carefully by using a spring-tined rake. However, for larger areas, consider using powered tools as a single unit or perhaps as mower attachments. Take note that when you scarify too deep, your lawn can be damaged. Moreover, you must not scarify in spring since the lawn might not recover in summer conditions.

    Flattening

In order to correct troughs and bumps, make use of an edging iron or spade in order to slice through the turf and roll it back. Furthermore, fork over the underlying ground, and remove or add soil as needed. Replace the turf, pressing the edges together, and thoroughly water it.

Indeed, there are a couple of autumn lawn care treatments you must employ to improve the quality and health of your lawn.
