    Islamabad Red Zone Protestors Trapped

Last night the decision was made by Imran Khan [Pakistan Tehreek Insaf – PTI] and Dr. Tahir ul Qadri [Pakistan Awami Tehreek] to move their respective sit-in’s which have remained peaceful since it began just over two weeks ago along Constitution Avenue to relocate outside Prime Minister House in an endeavour to break the deadlock between PM Nawaz Sharif and the demands of Khan and Qadri.

Khan and Qadri are now embroiled in a tit for tat stand-off with the Police. As thousands of protestors moved forward towards PM House – a container blocking the route was removed which was followed by a bombardment of tear gas and rubber bullets from the Police. Journalist’s and camera crews have been targeted by the Police - beaten, cameras’ broken and vans vandalized. Three deaths have been reported amongst the protestors but remain unconfirmed.

This morning all routes leading to the Red Zone were blocked by containers. Nobody is able to access Constitution Avenue nor are the trapped protesters able to leave. With no food or water – children, women and the wounded are suffering.

Roads are blocked – there is little to no traffic on normally busy thoroughfares. Markets and shops remain closed.
